Dillon is a psychologist and information scientist specializing in human and social use of information and digital technologies. He has researched and written extensively on the usability and acceptance of new tools for information sharing and communication, particularly in business and educational environments. He works with designers to ensure that human factors are considered throughout the design process and helps to translate psychological perspectives and research findings into design recommendations and implementation strategies. He has published extensively on web behavior, digital genres, user evaluation methods and the failure of new technologies to support users appropriately. He has consulted extensively with industry both in the US and in Europe and is a strong advocate for a new field of information studies dealing with the organization, interaction and curation of information resources.
