Gayle Timmerman is assistant dean of the nursing undergraduate program and has been involved in research focusing on health promotion with a specific focus on nonpurge binge eating and weight in women. Timmerman's research seeks to develop a sound theoretical basis for individualized interventions to achieve long-term weight loss and prevention of weight gain in nonpurge binge eaters. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in health promotion and regularly guest lectures on topics of binge eating, weight management in women and assessment of nutritional status and obesity. Her research project, Dieting, Deprivation and Nonpurge Binge Eating in Women, as well as a minority supplement for an undergraduate nursing student, has been funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health.
