John C. Butler is a clinical associate professor of finance and program director of the Master of Science in Finance program in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also the program director for the Undergraduate Energy Management Program and academic director of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Center for Business, Law, and Policy.
His research interests involve the use of decision science models to support decision-making, with a particular emphasis on decision and risk analysis models with multiple performance criteria. Butler has consulted with a number of organizations on the application of decision analysis tools to a variety of practical problems, including the management of natural gas storage facilities, the disposition of surplus weapons-grade plutonium, the estimation of the size of a coal pile at a generation facility, and the valuation of gas and oil properties.
He received his Ph.D. in management science and information systems in 1998 from The University of Texas at Austin after earning a BBA in management information systems in 1991 from Texas A&M University.
