Lawrence W. Speck is professor in the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has been on the faculty since 1975. He was dean of the School of Architecture from 1992-2001. Speck received three degrees from M.I.T., where he was on the faculty from 1972-75. Speck has won numerous awards, including both the Amoco Award and the Blunk Professorship, both for outstanding undergraduate teaching. He has been a Fulbright Senior Scholar and has written 40+ articles in professional journals and other publications on art, architecture, engineering and design. Speck also has a distinguished career as a practicing architect. His buildings have garnered 28 design awards and have been published in 60+ articles in the U.S., Germany, England, Italy, Japan and Brazil. Three of his works are the Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the Robert E. Johnson Legislative Office Building and an extension to the Austin Convention Center. In 1995 Speck was elected a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects.
