Adams applies various geographical lenses to communication, addressing communication infrastructure, communication as a social process, and communication as an element of individual experience. His most recent works address foreign perceptions of the United States and the ways the symbolic construction of "America" has shifted in foreign media as a result of terrorism, warfare, and unilateralism in American foreign policy.
