Tolga Ozyurtcu, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin and currently serves as the department's Undergraduate Coordinator.
Ozyurtcu holds a B.A. in Political Science from Haverford College, a M.Sc. in Sport Management from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Physical Culture and Sports Studies, also from UT-Austin. He teaches in the areas of Sport Management and Physical Culture and Sport Studies, including classes in the management of sport organizations, media and public relations in sport, and the historical, philosophical, and ethical aspects of sport and physical activity. An experienced coach and sport industry consultant, Ozyurtcu seeks to engage his students by combining practical and theoretical approaches to the study of sport.
Ozyurtcu's research interests include the history of sporting subcultures, sport and cultural geography, physical culture history, and innovation in sport.
He has previously served on the Executive Council of the North American Society for Sport History and in 2024, organized the "Sports Technology and Innovation: New Perspectives" symposium at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
